“Emotional Rollercoaster” was the first single from Vivian Green’s heavily slept on 2002 debut album, A Love Story. Philadelphia has a rich history of producing talented R&B acts (Patti LaBelle, Teddy Pendergrass, Frankie Beverly, Boyz II Men, Musiq Soulchild, Jill Scott, etc.) who have recorded some of the most soulful music the world has ever heard. Green’s music is no different. Besides being drop-dead gorgeous, the Philadelphia songstress has a voice that’s so incredibly soothing, it’s almost capable of lulling you to sleep.
I think most people have been in relationships where the good was more than awesome, but the bad felt like the pits of Hell. In addition to Green’s alluring vocals and the live instrumentation used on the record, it’s the relatable theme that really makes this song a winner. Love isn’t always pretty and Green reminds us of that, while still making it sound beautiful. How ironic.
